As we are zipping toward the end of this action packed spring, I want to wish all of you a fantastic finish to the school year. For many of us, we have been out on the road recruiting, working on employment contracts, facilitating our teacher of the year awards in our districts, planning employee retirement celebrations, and working on the staffing and hiring process for 2017-2018 school year.

House passes bill on inappropriate teacher-student relationships
The House passed Senate Bill 7, which would penalize principals and superintendents who purposely hide incidents of teachers having sexual or romantic relationships with students.

 

 
Texas bill would require students to pass citizenship test to graduate

Texas high school students may be required to pass a U.S. citizenship test in order to graduate. The House Public Education Committee approved House Bill 1776, which would replace a U.S. history course that students take at the end of a semester with a test that people take to get their U.S.  
     
 

Update on Teacher Evaluations in Texas


The Commissioner has reached an agreement with various teacher organizations regarding the student growth component of teacher appraisal for both the state recommended teacher appraisal system, the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS), and locally adopted teacher appraisal systems.
