Message from the President

By Jed N Reed, Director of Staffing and HR Services, Lewisville ISD

Welcome to our first electronic newsletter. Long in the creation, but a big step forward for the association in our ongoing effort to expand and enhance services for our members. This is just one of the new, upcoming innovations that your officers and Board members have been working on over the past year.  We hope to share more with you at the December conference in Austin.  Make sure to plan on attending so that you can be part of TASPA’s next step towards becoming the premier education association for human resources.

TASPA has been actively representing your interests on many different fronts. As we continue to interact with TEA concerning operational activities in the areas of certification, of out-of-state credential review, and of the transition from one certification testing company to another, we continue to work for the best interests of the students and school districts of our state.

Seeking out the most highly-qualified candidates for our classrooms is a responsibility that should not be impeded by processes that are not efficient, effective, or timely.  TASPA wants to be involved in seeking out solutions to the issues facing the certification division of TEA and will continue to provide input and supportive engagement.  We want to move forward in a positive way and to assist the agency in removing the barriers to create a procedure that will be effective for all the stakeholders.

In anticipation of the November 7 election, TASPA wants to encourage the membership to actively engage in the political process not only by voting, but by taking as many individuals to the polls as possible.  Some are estimating an extremely low voter turnout. With all of the important issues facing the state, not only in the educational sector, it is key that citizens turn out in large numbers to participate in our democratic process.  What we deal with in the future will be a direct result of our actions today.  Once the election results are in, TASPA will be involved in the preparation of the legislative session starting in January of ’07 with the determination to represent your interests and needs for improvement and for change in key areas that impact HR operations in Texas public schools.

In closing, the officers, regional directors, and staff wish to extend to you grateful thanks for all that you do and will do for the employees and students of our public schools.
