State Board for Educator Certification Meets
The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) met in Austin on Friday, February 3, 2012. The SBEC voted to approve revisions to 19 TAC Chapters 230, 232 and 233. Changes to Chapter 230 primarily consisted of a reorganization of the rules with no major rule changes. Some rules from Chapter 232 have been merged with Chapter 230 in an effort to make the rules easier to locate. As a result of the reorganization, subchapter titles and/or section numbers were changed. In Chapter 233, a major proposed revision would change the 8-12 certificate structure. Some certificates would have a 6-12 grade range and others would have a 7-12 grade range. Before the rule changes can become effective, these chapters will be presented to the SBEC for adoption in June and then to the State Board of Education for approval. If approval is granted, rules would be effective August 26, 2012.
